The Bone Art Crafts specialises in hand crafted New Zealand Maori Bone Carving and Jade Carving in its many forms. Our range covers many styles, from very traditional pieces such as representations of manaia and hei-matua to more contemporary designs such as beautiful dragon carvings.

Bone Artwork has a very special feel about it, unlike anything else you will ever experience. Its milky white appearance and soft flowing lines are just the start of what makes Bone Carvings so special. Bone is soft and warm to the touch yet the finish is like polished glass. A well crafted Carving seems to blend with the body and become a part of you, especially when worn against your skin.

The beauty of Jade is unsurpasssed with its semi translucent look and swirls ofgreen.NZ Jade Carvings have an irresistible aura of strength and beauty. Over a period of time the Carving absorbs oils from your skin and changes color to a very light honey gold. Maori believe this to be the Carving taking on some of your spirituality or essence and thus truly becoming a part of the wearer.

Each piece is crafted by hand so even if the craftsman is following the same design, no two pieces will ever be exactly the same. Unique pieces can also be designed especially for you, telling your story through traditional styling and some may also include exotic inlays of shell or precious stones. Every Carving comes with a traditional style cord, a woven flax presentation bag and a description of the meaning or story behind the design. The average dimensions of the Carvings are 60mm x 30mm, so they really do represent superb artworks in miniature.
