Sherwood
Exports Ltd is an exporter of New Zealand hides, pelts and possum skins.
Sherwood has been actively engaged in these commodities over the past 15
- 20 years.
Sherwood markets its products throughout Europe, North America, Asia and South East Asia. The products are exported in raw, airdried, pickled, wet blue and crust, depending on the market requirements. |
Sherwood has a network of agents, enabling us to service our customers' varied requirements by providing independent appraisals, inspections and recommendations.Sherwood has continued to have faith and confidence that a viable possum industry can still be of enormous benefit to New Zealand. Whilst it has been extremely difficult during the downturn in the interest for furs internationally, we have continued in our endeavours to market possum skins in raw, crust and finish. Whilst the volume has decreased markedly, we are of the firm opinion the swing back to natural furs has improved. We are very mindful from a conservation viewpoint that it is essential to find new markets and new methods of utilising the possum skin and fur.
Our efforts have now turned to producing fur and processing the fibre blended with New Zealand Merino Wool into yarns, both for the domestic and international markets. This we see as a major commitment by Sherwood and its associates to assist in the enormous problem that we have with the damage that the possum is causing to our forests throughout New Zealand, the most obvious being the consumption of over 21000 tonne of plant material per night.
Sherwood looks forward to the challenges ahead. We have a committed desire to focus on the possum to help generate funds that would not normally be available, due to the poisoning of the possum.
We will be involved in a progressive step forward to hunt and trap the possum, so that we can develop markets for the possum fur fibre. This in return will assist the forest and the bird life of New Zealand. To find out more, please click on the following links
